We know you want to make the money, and for that reason, we advise that the ultimate goal of every search engine optimization campaign you carry out should be getting your money keywords ranking highly on page 1 of Google SERP (Search Engine Results Page).
The easiest way to trick that out is writing good content, and then ensuring that you include a couple of easy to rank long-tail keywords within the content…can we ever say this enough?
Now, while a very quick keyword research session using a tool like Google Adwords Keyword Planner or a simple yet powerful software like iLovePage1 can uncover those golden keywords in less than 5 minutes, it beats my imagination silly that people still write and publish content without targeting any specific keyword.
As a result, every internet marketer should always aim to use keywords which their site visitors/ prospective customers search Google with frequently, and most importantly those which have little “allintitle” competition.
If you do proper keyword selection, then you are likely to get first page of Google quickly. The odds that you will rank in Google page 1 in a short time will greatly be in your favor.
In other to save you the stress and redundancy of going through hundreds of Google SERPs looking to see where your site is ranked against the keywords that you have targeted, there are free tools you can use.
In this post, I present to you my top 3 keywords ranking checker tools that I use for checking my site’s keyword ranking. By using these tools, I have not had the need to ask the popular newbie “where is my site ranked on google” question.
Hopefully, after reading this, you won’t need to ask the question too.
Google Webmaster Tools
It goes without saying that no other keyword tracking tool out there will come close, as far as clinical accuracy is concerned, to GWT. What other tools normally do is to connect to Google and other serach engines to extract keyword ranking data, so if you go directly through Google Webmaster tool, you’d be sure to get minute accuracy.
If you don’t have a Google account as at this moment, take out the time to sign-up. When you sign-up, you can head over to Google Webmaster Tools and add your site to your account. Now, you’d need to go through some verification process (you will be well guided by Google) before you start getting the data.
With all said and done, we highly recommend Google for its accuracy and ease of getting data after you have gotten everything set up initially.
Pros: It is totally free, and you can go hundreds of pages deep to find where your site ranks for your keywords, something other tools really can’t cut well. You also have that accuracy advantage. If google says you rank at number 2 position, you are 100% sure that you are.
To top the cake with extra icing, when you use GWT, you also enjoy access to other tools that could help the SEO of your site. Examples are checking SEO health, links pointing to your site, your most popular search visit queries, etc.
Cons: It requires registration and verification process for the first use.

Bonus Tips: sometimes, after seeing your Google keyword rank position using any of the tools mentioned above, you might still want to confirm manually, by running a Google search and go to the page where your site is said to be ranked – I tend to do this sometimes.
Here are two tips to get the best of results:
- Always use www.google.com/ncr (ncr meaning “no country redirection”) when you want to check where your site is ranked in the SERP for your US audience, if you are browsing the web from another country.
Simply going to google.com will always redirect you to the extension for your country of residence (e.g. it will redirect to googl.co.uk if you are browsing from the UK), hence you will be getting rank results for your country’s audience rather than your target audience.
- You should always log out from your Google account (Gmail, YouTube, Google Adsense, etc.) and clear your browser before running the search if you want to get accurate and unbiased results. Many people might not know this, but Google tends to serve search results according to your preference, and if you are logged in to your Google account, the results will be biased - heck, you might just be ranking at #1 for the brutally “make money online” keyword with a 5 minutes old blog if you don’t follow this.
